I know it is the most cliche thing in the world to say that childhood is so fleeting but good grief you all is parenting a constant lesson in letting go! These kids grow so quickly. I, of course, feel that way about my own kids but I almost feel that more so with my clients because I only see them once a year! I have been taking photos of this little one since he was in his Mama’s belly. It’s been an amazing experience to see how much he has grown and changed! It’s a really cool aspect of being in Richmond for so long working as a photographer that I have gotten to take a lot of photos of children growing up. I LOVE that we got to shoot this little man in his element…. his jammies, rainboots and a little playtime mixed in! Capturing kids in their everyday is one of my favorite things to do as a children’s photographer.
I hope that you enjoy them!
I have this immense love of California that stems from my time of living there during college. California has always been for me a place of learning, a place of finding like-minded community and a place of exploration. I got to do all three last month when I traveled out to Santa Barbara for the Yeah Field Trip! (http://photofieldtrip.com/) and then stayed for the weekend to visit with friends and teachers from college. It did my heart a world of good. Traveling is not something that happens often in my life unless it’s within driving distance with children or for work. It was such a treat to have a trip on my own, to get to visit a place that I love so dearly and to reconnect with some college friends. I drove around after the Field trip was over to take photos of my old apartments, my school and the coffee shop that I worked at while I was in school to show my kids. I, also, had a chance to visit with my portrait teacher and she was such an inspiration yet again to me. The entire experience was fantastic. I loved that I got to return to Santa Barbara to meet with other photographers, to learn from them and alongside them…. It felt like coming back home. I hope you enjoy browsing through my favorite photos from my trip. Seriously, I love Virginia and it’s beauty but the photographers in California have a special opportunity afforded to them at all times. To my friends, THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for welcoming me with open arms and for sharing your sweet families with me that weekend. It was such a treat to spend time with all of you.
I hope that you all enjoy these images!
So it’s pretty true that I can embrace my hippy side to the max, I am going there with this post when I tell you that I definitely think that movement can heal your soul. There’s something about the physical manifestation of dance that really speaks to me in regards to your inner self. (And this is coming from a woman who can’t dance at all… I mean I do it… in my kitchen with my babies but not many other places). I loved, loved, loved collaborating on this shoot with Ira White of the Richmond Ballet. We had a chance to explore Scott’s Addition and to use the lovely studio space at Paisley and Jade. It was fun for me to abandon my typical role of wedding photographer or family photographer (not that I don’t love those things too but it’s always nice to spread your wings). I hope that you enjoy looking at these images and that they speak to you like they do to me. I find it so amazing how dancer’s make ART with their bodies. If you haven’t had a chance to check out a Richmond Ballet performance yet, please do so. Their performances often move me to tears and their dance school is a place my daughter loves dearly. I really appreciate Ira’s gravity defying abilities and his amazing happy smile!
I’m super excited to share a recent bridal session with you! I had a blast shooting it and we lucked into some perfect weather. I have to say that bridals are some of my favorite sessions to shoot because they are quite simply fun. You have the glam of the wedding day without the stress of the high pressure to stay on track with a time frame like you do on a wedding day! Thank you, Katherine, for being so much fun to work with and trusting me to do my thing!
